The neighborhoods of Four Oaks are located 28 miles southeast of Raleigh, in the center of Johnston County, North  Carolina. The area is approximately 100 miles from the Atlantic Ocean and 200 miles from the Blue Ridge Mountains. The towns are served by Interstates 95 and 40 and U.S. 70 and 301, making travel along the eastern seaboard easy and convenient. To the north, Washington, DC is 260 miles and to the south, Atlanta, GA is410 miles. The area is approximately one-half way between New York City and Daytona Beach, FL.

Johnston County is situated along the fall line between the coastal plain and Piedmont in the east-central part of North Carolina. The county has an area of 795 square miles, North Carolina’s eleventh largest. Smithfield’s area is 11.7 square miles. Selma’s is roughly 5.5 square miles. The Smithfield-Selma area is 155 feet above sea level, compared to Raleigh, which has an elevation of 434 feet.

Bus Service

The Smithfield Bus Station is located at 600 S. Bright Leaf Boulevard and is served by Trailways and Greyhound. The phone number is 919-934-8272.

Rail

Passenger rail service is available on Amtrak through the recently renovated Selma Railroad Depot. The Carolinian, which originates in New York and travels to Charlotte, makes two daily stops in Selma, southbound at 3:30 p.m. and northbound at 12:34 p.m. The Palmetto, which travels the eastern seaboard, also makes a daily stop in Selma.
